Words to the wise …
If you have a problem and can fix it. Fix it straight away. If you cannot fix it, let it go.
The things that we worry about, most of them will not matter to you in the years to come. Most of the day to day worries we have in our heads are about the small stuff. What someone said to us. Maybe we think we have been unfairly treated. Worrying about these small things will not fix the problem. All you are doing is bringing your own worst enemy home with you. If someone has upset you ( and it is not a life and death matter) why bring them home with you and discuss them round the dinner table with your family? Does it not make more sense to let it go and relax and enjoy dinner with your family?
I remembered today the things that worried me when I was a teenager. Where to get the best spot concealer? Will my spots every go away? I was never part of the cool crowd. I sniggered when I thought of these things today and wished I had the same worries today. Then I remembered, a worry is a worry. These things caused me untold anxiety when I was 13. I could hardly bear being teased or called names. It means nothing to me now. Whether I am worrying about acne or not fitting in, or the worries that come with being a fully grown woman, the feelings are still the same. So I got to thinking ….
These days, I tend to live by my own set of rules if. If I have a problem and I can fix it, I fix it. Straight away. Then there is nothing to worry about. If it is something that I have no control over, I let it be.
When the big stuff happens, we surprise ourselves by our own ability to cope. Our friends and family appear when the big stuff happens and support us and carry us through. We cope.
Most of what happens in our day is basically ok. If we are caught up in our thoughts of what might be, or what could have been, we miss the ok bits.
Why waste the days when nothing is happening, by worrying about the small stuff. Let it go. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
