Free learning game for kids and preschoolers.
The Creatures of Harmony Valley: Music, match and memory games.
This game was developed by my partner, and it is a free educational tool to help your child learn.
Speaking as a psychologist, the games will be fun for your child, but are in fact, helping them to develop a set of important learning skills. It is like a bootcamp for their brain and future learning!
When your child learns something new, they are in fact, laying down new pathways in their brain! Pathways, that can form building blocks for future learning.
You will have these pathways too. Think about learning to ride a bike. At first, it was difficult. The more you practiced, the more new pathways were created in your brain. Until one day, you could ride a bike! You did not have to think about it, you did it automatically. More importantly, you did not lose the ability to ride a bike. Even if you have not cycled in years, you will still have that skill.
It is the same for your child. You can help them to develop skills to help them to learn. These skills will always be available to them.
Creatures of Harmony Valley will help your child develop:
Processing sounds skills: This will help with words and sentences. It is a building block for spelling, reading and understanding.
Visual processing skills. Your child will learn to associate images with sounds or concepts. This will help your child with problem solving and mathematics.
A very important aspect of this game, is the emphasis on developing skills in music. Lewis, my partner, is a classically trained musician and has a specialized interest in music and the brain.
Research shows that music changes your brain in a way that no other skill appears to do.
Young children who take music lessons show different brain development and improved memory compared to children who do not receive musical training.
Memory is a cornerstone in your child’s learning and development. In addition to the research showing that music education may result in improved memory, the game also builds on this through play.
You might not be aware of this, but music and maths are linked. Helping your child acquire music skills may also help the development of mathematical skills.
Attentional skills: Helping your child learn to pay attention, will set the building blocks for being able to focus on what is important. Children who acquire this skill are less likely to become distracted.
Processing speed skills: This is simply how fast your child can take in information and do something with it. Helping your child develop this skill, will help their future learning.
Developing memory – helping your child to remember things. This is crucial for your child’s learning. When acquiring a new skill, in order to become better at it, your child needs to remember what has been taught so far.
The game will also help to promote patience and exploration through play.
This free educational game is available on google play, android and iOS devices.
Happy learning :)
